Bracelets sold in memory of Bentley teacher:
-----------------------------------
Bentley School students and staff are selling bracelets in memory of sixth-grade teacher Martha Osuch who passed away in December after a long battle with cancer. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Osuch’s name.
In honor of Bentley teacher Martha Osuch, who passed away late last year, the New Lenox school plans to sell royal blue bracelets in her memory.
“We want to celebrate the life and legacy that Mrs. Osuch left for all of those who knew her,” said Bentley Principal Michelle Hall. “She was a remarkable teacher and friend who touched many lives with her wit and unconditional care.”
Mrs. Osuch was a sixth-grade teacher at Bentley School when she passed away Dec. 10, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. She was 51.
Students and staff plan to honor her through a number of activities, including the bracelet sale. The bracelets may be purchased at Bentley School, 513 E. Illinois Highway, during school hours.
The bracelets are $5 each. A portion of the sale ($3 from each bracelet) will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Osuch’s name.
Students and staff also plan to organize a walk in Mrs. Osuch’s memory during Colon Cancer Awareness Month in March. They’re also working to establish a new award at the school that will be presented to a Bentley sixth-grader each year who exemplifies Mrs. Osuch’s positive spirit.
The award will be called the “Whammy Jammy Award” – a trademark term Mrs. Osuch used to give her students positive thoughts about success before a test or quiz.
“I can think of no better tribute to Mrs. Osuch than continuing to view life as a wonderful journey where learning is fun,” said Hall.
