An educator who began her teaching career in New Lenox School District 122 and worked her way up to building principal has been selected to fill the district’s Director of Curriculum position.
Bonnie Groen, who once taught at Haines and Martino Junior High schools, will take over as the district’s Director of Curriculum at the end of the 2007-08 school year. She is currently the principal at Spencer Pointe School.
“The District is very fortunate to be able to transfer Principal Bonnie Groen in to the Director of Curriculum position,” said Associate Superintendent Peggy Manville. “Bonnie has spent her entire career in District 122 and is an integral part of the school community’s vision and belief system.”
Groen began her educational career as a teacher at Haines School in 1998. She moved on to Martino Junior High School in 2000 where she taught P.E.
In 2002, she was named assistant principal at Martino where she was mentored by Principal Del Bitter.
In 2006, she was picked to open Spencer Pointe School as the school’s first principal.
“I am looking forward to the new challenge of Director of Curriculum and Instruction as well as continuing to serve the students of the New Lenox School District,” she said.
Groen received her bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and her master’s degree in administration from Northern Illinois University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership at Aurora University.
“Bonnie possesses a strong desire to enhance curricular programs, while providing support for her colleagues and our teachers,” said Manville. “She is an energetic leader who has proven herself to be an administrator who makes decisions that are truly in the best interest of our students. She will be a tremendous team player who will assist in taking the District to the next level.”
