RE:   Liberty students catch "Disco Fever"

-----------------------------------

Liberty Junior High School students are busy preparing for their spring production of   “Disco Fever” on March 13 and 14.

Under the direction of Mrs. Kathy McCollum, seventh- and eighth-grade students at Liberty Junior High School are busy preparing for their spring production, “Disco Fever”.  Wealthy but ditzy Patricia Smithertonb-Smatherton and her granddaughters realize something is very wrong when movers begin to repossess the furniture.  Perkins, the perfect butler, tries to tell madam the problem lies with Stan D. Mann her unscrupulous business manager.  Stan plans to sell their house to a flashy Hollywood producer.  The girls decide the only way to come up with the mortgage money is to send their grandmother away and turn the mansion into “Disco Dawg”.  When Stan drops dead, Tracy, the oldest granddaughter is arrested because she picks up what everyone thinks is the murder weapon.  Three lady detectives called Chuck’s Angels help the daffy policed officers, but only some quick thinking by Perkins stops the killer from getting away.

Students work on memorizing, blocking, and rehearsing after school to prepare for their performance.  This activity not only utilizes drama talents of the students, but enables other students to be involved in other necessary aspects of theater production.  Another group of students will work with Mrs. Debbie Kohl, art teacher, to paint sets, create props, and design advertisement posters for the big event.  Lighting, sound, costumes are other areas student’s interests and talents are put to work.
