An assistant principal at the Tyler/Bentley campus has been selected to replace Bonnie Groen as the building principal at Spencer Pointe School in New Lenox.
Kim Gray, who has been splitting her time between Tyler and Bentley schools for the past two school years, will take over as Spencer Pointe’s principal on July 1.
She replaces Groen, who was picked to serve as the district’s new Curriculum Director beginning July 1.
“Kim will be yet another integral part of our school community and administrative team,” said Associate Superintendent Peggy Manville. “Over the last four years, she has provided our teachers with exceptional instructional leadership. In addition, she is a leader who is driven by her desire to help each child achieve success in all areas. I am confident that she will continue to build upon the fine start that Spencer Pointe has already experienced.”
Mrs. Gray joined the New Lenox School District in 2004 as an administrative intern at Cherry Hill School. She was hired to teach first grade at Tyler School that fall.
Prior to coming to New Lenox, Mrs. Gray taught first-grade in Lemont (2000-2002) and California (1998-2000).
She grew up in the Joliet area is a graduate of Joliet Catholic Academy.
“I am so excited to have this opportunity,” Gray said about her new appointment. “Bonnie and (Assistant Principal) Trisha (Anderson) have done an outstanding job of opening Spencer Pointe and creating an inviting atmosphere for all parents, students, teachers and staff. I look forward to building on the foundation that they have created and offering the highest quality education to our students in a fun, child-centered atmosphere.”
Gray received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Charleston Southern University in 1995 and her master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University in 2004.
“My teaching experience has been primarily in first- to third-grade classrooms,” she said. “There is nothing more exciting to me than the enthusiasm these children have for learning. I am so proud of what each and every staff member in NLSD does on a daily basis to serve the needs of our students and community. I am honored to become a part of Spencer Pointe’s team.”
Gray lives in New Lenox with her husband, Eric, and their two children.
