PROJECT BEGIN

The program consists of children from the At-risk category as well as students who qualify for Early Childhood through the Lincolnway Area Special Education Cooperative. Each section of Project BEGIN can accommodate up to ten "At-Risk" children and five "Early Childhood" students. The criteria for admittance into Project BEGIN depends upon whether the student is considered At-Risk or Early Childhood.

At-Risk Criteria:
In order to qualify for At- Risk, the child must be between the age of three and five. The following considerations are taken into account when determining eligibility for At-Risk:

  • Parent(s) employment or unemployment status
  • Family income level
  • Family mobility
  • Limited experiences or opportunities for experiences
  • Limited english proficiency
  • Foster care status
  • Health issues
  • Parent(s) educational level
  • Parent(s) age
  • Family constellation

Early Childhood Criteria:
The child must be between the ages of three and five. Eligibility is determined by testing results, observations, and a parent interview in conjunction with team judgment.

Project BEGIN is funded by a combination of resources. The primary funding is provided from a grant through the Illinois State Board Of Education. Any additional funding comes from the Lincolnway Area Special Education Cooperative. We are proud to provide a program such as this for the youngest students of District 122. If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact Lori Motsch at Cherry Hill School (462-7831).
