SCHOOL CLOSINGS

DO WE HAVE SCHOOL TODAY? ARE YOU SURE?

As the winter season approaches, it is important for you to understand factors used in canceling school. The absolute first consideration in calling school off is the safety of our over 5300 students and staff.

Questions we ask:

  • Have all roads been plowed and what is the condition of those roads – are they icy or easily passable
  • Are children safe at their bus stops?
  • Can the 65 District 122 buses maneuver around the village and township with ease and safety – or are      conditions such that there is a great deal of blowing/drifting snow?
  • Are conditions expected to improve or worsen during the day – is the storm ending or just beginning?
  • Can staff get to school, and will they be able to get home at the end of the day?

  • District 122 participates in the Emergency Closing Center and information can be found by listening to:
  • WGN AM Radio 720
  • WBBM AM Radio 780
  • WJOL AM Radio 1340
  • Television Channels 2, 5, 7 9, Fox 32 and CLTV News

  • Closings may also be found on the internet at
    www.EmergencyClosings.com

Weather announcements and other important information can be accessed by calling our New Hot News Number (815) 462-7001 mailbox number 7107#

Be assured that a decision to close school will always be made with a look at all factors, focusing first on safety of our students and staff.

    Sincerely,

    Michael W. Sass, Ed. D.
    Superintendent
